A Competitor Shows Up in AI Answers and You Don't
You can't add a competitor, the comparison is empty, or a rival keeps appearing where you don't. How to track competitors and close the gap.
A rival keeps coming up when buyers ask AI about your category, and you don't. Or you tried to track them and the page won't let you add them, or shows nothing after you did.
Likely causes
- You're on Free. The page says "Competitor tracking is available on paid plans."
- You're at your plan's limit. It's per brand: 1 competitor on Starter ($49/mo), 2 competitors on Growth ($99/mo) and 3 competitors on Pro ($149/mo). The card says how many your plan allows.
- No audit has run since you added them. The page says "Ready to compare" until one does.
- The name doesn't match how answers say it. Answers are searched for variants of the competitor's name and site, so use the name buyers use.
Fix it
- Open Competitors in the sidebar.
- In Competitor Tracking, click Add Competitor.
- Enter the Competitor Name as buyers say it and their Website URL, then click Add. Both are required.
- Run an audit. The comparison fills in from that audit's answers.
- To swap a competitor, click the X beside their name and add the new one. It's removed at once, without a confirmation.
Close the gap
- On Competitors, read Keyword Gaps: the keywords where they appear and you don't.
- Read Outreach Targets: the sites the answers cite for them. Those pages are where a mention of you would count.
- Open Insights and sort by Category to group the Competitor Gap items. They name the keyword or platform where the gap is widest.
- Check that your own page on each gap topic is reachable and states your facts in plain text, then re-audit.
How it works: Competitor comparison reference defines every metric on the page.
